Pictures of an Apple Watch band created in honor of former Apple design leader Sir Jony Ive's 50th birthday have surfaced online, offering a glimpse at what might be among the most uncommon official bands ever produced.
These pictures are from "Stella Fudge" on X (formerly Twitter), who states that the device is one of just ten prototypes created to test the unique product before Ive received the finished one in February 2017 together with a 42mm Ceramic Apple Watch Series 2 "Edition" model. The ceramic pin on the Apple Watch band is engraved with a personalized "J50" monogram in silver letters. The band itself is "Cloud" white. I left Apple in June 2019 and am currently the owner of LoveFrom, a freelance design company.
Though the Sport Band has been a standard design for the Apple Watch since its launch in 2014, only a select few models—like the Apple Watch Hermès and Black Unity band—have engraved pins. When the band is worn on the wrist, these are inconspicuous, yet they give the owner a subliminal hint as to what makes this particular model unique.
The first of its sort was the white ceramic Apple Watch Series 2, which was followed by a new gray model, the Series 3. The premium white ceramic Edition edition for the Series 5 was brought back by Apple in 2019—the last time the material was utilized on the watch. The Series 4 devices did not have a ceramic Apple Watch Edition. The Apple Watch Edition made of ceramic was noticeably cheaper than its 24K gold predecessor, but it remains one of the most striking and beloved casings ever offered by Apple.
