Digital Home Productivity: Smart Devices That Really Matter

We are in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT), unless you have been living under a rock for the last fifteen or so years. Our houses are becoming centers of ease and efficiency. Beyond just being comfortable, these developments are now significantly influencing our productivity.

Using smart home devices can significantly improve daily activities, whether you're working from home or just trying to make things more efficient.

This is a list of devices that are particularly noteworthy in the pursuit of increased productivity. The gadgets and equipment that I currently own are listed in parenthesis.

1. Nest Smart Thermostats by Google

Heat has a big impact on our ability to concentrate and work effectively. Over time, smart thermostats adjust the temperature to your preferred setting after learning about your preferences. You no longer need to fiddle with dials because your workspace is always ready for productivity.

2. Google Home voice assistants (I own four of them)

Voice assistants are quite useful tools for people who are concerned about productivity. Without lifting a finger, you can create grocery lists, set reminders, and manage other smart devices in your house. Additionally, you can easily manage your tasks by integrating them with apps like Any.do or Todoist.

3. Smart Lighting (I own six Philips Hue lightbulbs)

Ambience lighting for work. Custom presets are possible with smart lighting systems, which change the hue or brightness according to the activity at hand—whether it's leisure or concentrated labor.

4. Roomba Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Performing household tasks can be a major source of distraction, particularly when working from home. Daily cleaning is taken care of by a robotic vacuum, freeing you up to concentrate on more important duties.

5. Smart Plugs (smart plugs from Amazon)

Utilize voice commands or your phone to monitor and control gadgets. Smart plugs provide an extra layer of convenience and security, whether they're used to remotely turn on a study lamp or make sure the coffee maker is off.

When an appliance or gadget isn't internet-connected or can't be used with a voice assistant, I utilize my plug.

6. WiFi mesh networks, such as Google Nest WiFi

Reliability of internet access is essential for digital productivity. My TV and other smart devices are located on the first and second floors of my three-story home, while my office and gym area is located on the third floor.

Because there is one hub per floor, the Google Nest Wi-Fi Mesh ensures strong coverage throughout your house, removing dead zones and ensuring a reliable online experience. This makes it an excellent choice.

7. Smart Sitting Desks (Marsail at home, Uplift V2 at work)

The field of ergonomics is crucial to productivity. With just a button push, smart standing desks can be adjusted to your ideal height and come with presets for both standing and sitting, encouraging a more healthful work environment.

8. Beats Studio Pro Noise-Cancelling Smart Headphones

When it's time to focus, these headphones provide excellent sound quality for calls and music while assisting in removing outside distractions.

While these are by no means the only smart devices available, they are quite helpful for maintaining focus on the important things and letting our gadgets handle the details.
