The Action Button on All iPhone 16 Models May Be Redesigned

Although the replacement for the mute switch was first limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models this year, it looks like Apple plans to make it available to the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models as well the next year.

A recent rumor claims that Apple is considering including the Action button on all four of the rumored iPhone 16 series handsets. Although the replacement for the mute switch was first limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models this year, it looks like Apple plans to make it available to the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models as well the next year. According to MacRumors, there are also rumors indicating that the Action button on the iPhone 16 series will have a capacitive, utilizing force sensor feedback, just like the TouchID sensors on previous iPhone models and the Force Touch trackpad on MacBooks.

The iPhone SE 4, which is anticipated to launch in 2025, is probably going to include the new Action button as well.

The source also suggests that the redesigned Action Button would have capacitive-style capabilities instead of the traditional mechanical buttons seen on the volume and power keys.

According to internal documents, the MacRumors article stated that the improved Action button will have "tact-switching functionality," but it's unclear exactly what that means. It will also have a force sensor to detect changes in pressure. It is anticipated that the enhanced Action button's capability will also be present in the next "Capture" button, which is planned for the iPhone 16 series.

In the meantime, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities recently disclosed on his blog that Apple is getting ready to include a tetraprism camera in the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro model. Only the iPhone 15 Pro Max, out of the entire iPhone 15 series, came with a new telephoto lens that has a 120mm focal length and an optical zoom of up to 5x. In line with Kuo's earlier claims, the 12-megapixel telephoto camera on the iPhone 15 Pro has a 3x magnification.

Additionally, Kuo predicts that in terms of worldwide shipments of smartphones with periscope cameras in 2024, Apple and Huawei will be the companies with the quickest rate of growth. In 2024, Largan is anticipated to be Huawei's and Apple's main source of periscope lenses. Notably, periscope cameras are expected to be included in Huawei's next P70 series.
